There are three things that I’ve always liked about writing classes. 1.) We are put in a position where we have to write. 2.) We have a network of peers to offer feedback. 3.) Writing assignments.
Since most of us are also teachers of writing, I was thinking that it might be kind of cool to have a rotation where each week (or whatever), someone comes up with an assignment for all of us to follow. Then there’s also a built-in deadline, too (which, personally, have always helped me write). I don’t know. It might be worth trying out.
I LOVE this idea. My fear with a writing group was that we’d all get busy and would put it on the back burner or back out of it. I think if we have a schedule and some structure, we’re more likely to make it a priority and to stay involved. At least I will be. I’m all for it.
I agree. As I said briefly to Zach before leaving class (although I may have not been terribly coherent then), this rotation allows us each to play Chief and Indian – and how much fun is that? I have some pretty good ideas for assignments and not all of them come from Columbia College. I am really looking forward to being part of a writer’s group again, and I couldn’t have picked a better group to fall in with. This summer promises to be a great one!
